Our Purpose

To Celebrate

We are celebrating the beauty of us and our hair, and connecting to the heritage of our hair journeys. From mother to daughter, sister to brother, girlfriend to curlfriend.

Our Mission

To Empower

Powered by black women and fueled by black agencies and talent, Wakati is on a mission to make an impact and creating opportunities for black talent to shine.

In a landscape where the black hair experience felt like a maze, a group of passionate minds at KAO USA asked a single question: Why are there not more effective hair care formulas designed specifically for black hair? From there, the Wakati Hair journey began.

After a long, five year journey, the team revealed a new patented natural hair formula. They then sparked a partnership with Florida A&M University students to bring this new product line to life.

What emerged was a complete hair care system fueled by patented water activated technology designed to give users the power to finger detangle, soften coarse hair and reduce shedding. This groundbreaking technology was more than just a product... Wakati is a celebration of curls, kinks and coils.

Your wash day shouldn’t be a battle, it should be a love story. Wakati is about creating new experiences and celebrating heritage and diversity. Through vibrant partnerships and a commitment to nurturing talent from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Wakati stands tall, rooted in empowering the community it serves.

Wakati, meaning time in Swahili, is a tribute to where your hair has been and a celebration of where it’s headed. So, here’s to you- the time saved, experiences cherished and communities empowered. Embrace your hair and celebrate life with Wakati.
